It goes without saying that Star Wars is pretty famous for its music, and has some of the most famous scores in the entire film industry. Then again, who am I kidding, it's John Williams. Of course they're famous.
So, here are my picks for the best soundtracks from the current Star Wars saga (By soundtracks I of course mean particular songs, not entire film scores. Really? That wasn't obvious enough? How could I do a top 10 with only 9 choices?). Keep in mind I am definitely not a classical music expert, and I'm rating these simply based off of 1) how they sound, and 2) how well they fit with the scenes they are paired with. So I probably won't provide a whole lot of commentary with each pick; rather I'll link a video/audio clip for each song so you can hear them yourself. After all, a picture is worth 1000 words. I mean a video. The sound part. Like, the waves. This analogy is falling apart.
Someone make me start the countdown before I dig this hole even deeper.
#10. Yoda's Theme
I feel like I can just hear Yoda in the music; he's right there.
#9. Rey's Theme
As bad as the sequels were (yes, I just went there), it wasn't John Williams' fault, and there's still some good music that goes with them. This is one of the best tracks from the trilogy, behind only one other, which you shall soon see.
#8. Victory Celebration
The real ending to Star Wars, if I may say so.
#7. Cantina Band
Awww yeah.
How on earth could I leave this out?
#6. March of the Resistance
Best from the ST.
#5. The Imperial March
By far the most iconic villain song, ever. This really should be playing every time I enter a room.
#4. The Force Theme
The nostalgia is real.
#3. Across the Stars
Forget about the slightly messed up story behind it, this theme is incredible. It really does transport one onto the lake in Naboo.
#2. Battle of the Heroes
Now we're really talking. This is part of what made the fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan one of the best. This always seems to start playing in my head whenever I'm beginning a game or challenge of any sort. As does #1...
#1. Duel of the Fates
It pretty much goes without saying that this is the best. Though, to be honest, I've gone back and forth between this and Battle of the Heroes. At the moment, however, this is a strong #1. You just...can't do better than this. John Williams went above and beyond in the PT to make some amazing themes for some amazing battles.
Interesting side note: Dave Filoni, the director of The Clone Wars and Rebels, and George Lucas's prodigy, recently revealed in an interview why the soundtrack for the duel between Obi-Wan/Qui-Gon and Darth Maul is called Duel of the Fates. Apparently it is the duel of Anakin's fate. At the time, Qui-Gon was taking Anakin on as a padawan. He probably would have been able to keep Anakin from falling to the dark side if he (instead of Obi-Wan) had trained him. The duel decided Anakin's fate; and when Qui-Gon lost, that fate was decided, and Anakin began his path to the dark side.
I hope you enjoyed reading this and listening to the great music! Do let me know what you thought in the comments down below, and tell what Star Wars soundtracks you enjoy that are not on this list. As always, may the Force be with you.
What about Anthem of Evil or the Mandalorian Theme?
I thoroughly enjoyed this music Timothy, and especially valued your commentary! #8 and #7 made me want to dance. #4 and #3 are the most beautiful in my opinion. Thank you for brightening my morning!
I don't know...for some reason I feel like the Main Title is in its own category, I guess? Then again, it's also possible it just wouldn't have made the cut. :P
Just curious, where would the Main Title be on your list? :P
I actually considered putting Anakin's Dark Deeds on here! It would probably be a solid 11 or 12 though. But yeah, the top 5 is pretty packed; they're all close together xD
